Wacky Reference Wednesdays, No. 336

BLACK PANTHER #12 Variant Cover. 2016.
Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

This is the last of my Black Panther connecting covers (and really, what the whole series was leading up to). The head is based on Makonde sculpture, which is definitely worth a look. Wakanda is, of course, a fictional country, but I took a much of my inspiration from Tanzania and the surrounding area.

Alien(s)

ALIENS. 2017. Ink & watercolor on paper, 8 × 10″.

I'm running behind (as usual) but should finally get my online store updated by April. I may run my Comic Con Revolution commission list through the store as well, just to try. Have a great weekend!

The Thing (and Other News)

THE THING. 2016. Ink & watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

Happy Monday, folks! Hope you didn't lose too much sleep this weekend.

For those of you who have been asking, I'll be attending Comic Con Revolution in Ontario, CA on May 13. I'll start a commission list for the show about a month before.

I'm also planning on expanding my online store toward the end of the month. I'll have 5 commissions that my Dad inked and colored, as well as some limited edition prints from Sideshow, plus lots of other goodies. Stay tuned!

Wacky Reference Wednesdays, No. 335

HELLBOY AND THE B.P.R.D.: 1953 #3 PAGE 21. 2015.
Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) on bristol board, 11 × 17″.

Not pictured is all the period reference that was necessary for this story, set in 1953 (trade paperback available here). From the cars to the Sheriff Station, I tried to be as accurate as possible.

Watch out for Enkeledite!

10 Rules for Drawing Comics

WOLVERINE. 2017. Ink & watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

I've contributed a (hopefully) helpful list of guidelines for drawing and making comics at Dov Torbin's blog, 10 Rules for Drawing Comics. And in case you missed it, here's an interview I did with the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. Oh, and here's Wolverine (still waiting for my chance to see Logan).

X-O Manowar #50 Jam Cover

X-O MANOWAR. 2015. Ink(ed by Joe Rivera)
on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

I meant to post this a while ago, but it slipped through the cracks. My Dad and I provided just one of 50 figures for this massive jam piece celebrating 50 issues of X-O Manowar. Because I know whose back to scratch, we got to have the only figure holding the sword! At the bottom of the post, you can see the layout guide that was essential to wrangling this many artists into one composition. (Not sure who drew it, I'm afraid.) And in case you missed it, we also had a cover all to ourselves for the same issue.

Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

This came out last week (details here), but I didn't have a chance to post. Just one more cover in the series, which will be out next month. I'm actually behind on reading, so I gotta catch up! Hope you will too...
